Looking Ahead to the 2026 Legislative Session
As we enter the holiday season, many of us are spending time with loved ones and thinking about what matters most. This season reminds us that health and stability aren’t abstract ideas. They show up in our daily lives, in our ability to care for family, and in the peace of mind that comes from knowing help is available when we need it.
As we look ahead to the upcoming legislative session, those values will guide our work at Georgians for a Healthy Future. Congress recently failed to extend key ACA tax credits, putting hundreds of thousands of Georgians at risk of losing affordable health coverage. Without action, Georgia families will face steep premium increases in 2026, and many may be forced to choose between health care and other basic needs like groceries or rent. Georgia has state-level options to protect people’s coverage and keep premiums affordable, but it’s up to our state leaders to put them into action.
During the next session, GHF will focus on practical solutions that work for Georgia families. Our 2025–2026 legislative priorities include protecting Georgians from massive premium increases, strengthening Georgia Access and investing in enrollment support, closing the coverage gap so more working adults have reliable coverage, and removing unnecessary barriers that keep people from getting care.
This will be the second year of Georgia’s two-year session, and circumstances have changed since last year. We’ll continue working alongside communities and partners to make sure Georgia’s health care system puts people first.

Open Enrollment Continues Through January 15
Open enrollment for 2026 health coverage is still underway.
Georgians can shop for plans, compare prices, and apply for savings through GeorgiaAccess.gov, the state’s health insurance marketplace.
The next enrollment deadline is January 15, 2026. If you enroll by that date, your coverage will start on February 1. Don’t wait until the last minute. Getting covered now means you start the new year with health insurance in place.
Before you enroll, take time to:
- Review your current plan to make sure your doctors, prescriptions, and benefits still meet your needs.
- Compare this year’s plan options, since premiums, networks, and out-of-pocket costs have probably changed.
- Check your savings eligibility, because many Georgians qualify for some financial help that lowers monthly costs. Savings will likely look different for 2026, so it’s important to review your options before you choose a plan.
GHF’s blog, How to Make the Most of Open Enrollment 2026, walks you through what to look for, explains this year’s changes, and shows you how to connect with free, local enrollment help.
If you need support choosing a plan, understanding costs, or completing your application, reach out to GHF. Our enrollment assister can help you review your options and make a confident choice for you and your family.
