Honoring Georgia health champions at Celebration of Progress & Possibilities 2025

Progress takes time, but it’s driven by people who never stop pushing for it. At this year’s Celebration of Progress & Possibilities, we honor two changemakers whose lifelong dedication to health care and health policy has had a profoundly positive impact on the lives of Georgians: Andy Miller and Wendy Tiegreen.

For more than 30 years, Andy Miller has been a trusted and courageous voice in Georgia’s health care landscape. As a journalist and founder of Georgia Health News, Andy helps families, advocates, and decision-makers connect the dots between policies and lived experiences. His reporting holds leaders accountable, gives a voice to communities, and ensures Georgians have the knowledge they need to advocate for their health. In recognition of his extraordinary impact, Andy will receive the Linda Lowe Health Advocacy Award, named in honor of another trailblazer in Georgia’s health advocacy history.

Wendy Tiegreen devoted 35 years to public service, most recently as Director of Medicaid and Health System Innovation for the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities. Her visionary leadership helped make Georgia the first state to offer Medicaid-covered peer recovery coaches. She led the implementation of the 9-8-8 crisis response system and championed transformative policies that made mental health care more responsive, accessible, and human-centered. For her unwavering commitment to mental health equity and innovation, Wendy will receive the Powerhouse Policymaker Award.

Why their work matters to us

At Georgians for a Healthy Future, we believe health policies should focus on the people it’s meant to serve. Andy’s fearless reporting reminds us that the public has a right to know how decisions affect their lives. Wendy’s leadership proves that when the lived experiences of Georgians are prioritized, systems of care become stronger and more responsive.

Their legacies are aligned with GHF’s mission: promoting and advancing people-first policies,  amplifying community voices, and keeping he public informed and empowered. As we carry their example forward, we remain committed to building a health care system that truly works for every Georgian.
