Transportation
Adequate transportation is important to the health of Georgians because in most cases people need to go to a location outside of their homes to receive medical care. Without access to reliable, safe transportation, Georgians may be forced to skip health appointments, go without medication and ultimately, experience worse health outcomes.
The Georgians in the Driver’s Seat initiative launched as a collaboration of Georgians for a Healthy Future and The Arc Georgia in 2018. The initiative aimed to eliminate transportation as a barrier to health care for all Georgians, with a focus on people with disabilities. While this effort is not longer regularly active, GHF continues to advocate for improved transportation policies and programs to connect people to health care and other support services.
