Our Approach
At Georgians for a Healthy Future, we approach our goal of ensuring access to quality, affordable health care for all Georgians in three major ways: 1) community outreach and public education; 2) building, managing and mobilizing coalitions; and 3) public policy advocacy.
These elements reinforce each other: by engaging directly with communities, Georgians for a Healthy Future identifies the pressing health care needs and issues that inform our public policy agenda and enable coalition partners to mobilize cohesively around this agenda. In turn, enacting good public policy improves the lives of health care consumers throughout the state.
Outreach: Georgians for a Healthy Future organizes community forums and workshops across Georgia to foster substantive local dialogue about health issues and to organize an informed consumer activist base. We have a tested model of convening local leaders, medical providers, stakeholders, and consumers to discuss the most important health care issue facing them in their communities. Georgians for a Healthy Future also engages consumers and patients by providing health care information and advocacy tools to neighborhood and grassroots community groups, patient advocacy groups, and consumers hungry for information about health reform, what it means for them, and how they can be advocates. Coalitions: Georgians for a Healthy Future provides leadership, coordination, and strategic direction for a wide range of individual patient and consumer advocate organizations with missions to impact health care policy on behalf of their constituents.
Advocacy: Georgians for a Healthy Future is spearheading efforts for Georgia to seize opportunities presented by the nation’s new health care law to extend health insurance coverage to nearly two million uninsured Georgians, expand access to health care services and, ultimately, improve health outcomes for all individuals, families, and communities in the state.
